Ellen is beginning to understand what life will look like in the Governor’s house. Frightened and exposed, she’s forced to recount each of her sins – the inevitable tale of her fall from propriety. There’s something penetrating about the Governor’s voice, his smirks, his stare. He means to see that Ellen takes her punishment, of course. But first…first he means to see that she understands it.
She’s dragged through the house and thrown to her knees on cold tile in front of a horrifying sight. The master’s other girl is strung up in the middle of the room, stripped half-naked. All Ellen has to do is watch: watch as the Governor’s flogger falls on the girl’s bare bottom again and again, watch the whines and squirms. Watch as she realises, quivering, that it is only a matter of time until their positions are reversed and she receives her correction.
