I'd like to extend a warm welcome to the newest member of the Dreams of Spanking team, who joined us in November. Anyone who's listened to me complain about my workload over the last two years and has recommended I hire an assistant (I'm looking at you, Adele!) will be gratified to learn I've finally taken your advice. And excellent advice it was, too.
Allow me to introduce my new admin pixie, AJ Levi.
AJ is 32, kinky and a switch; she likes androgyny, shiny nail polish and leather belts. I've known her for over eight years - longer than I've lived in London, or been working in spanking - and we knew each other online even before that. She's known about Dreams of Spanking since its inception. I've always been able to talk to her about anything, and she has a knack for making me laugh.
AJ is an internet resident with a background in project management and photography; this is her first time working in the porn industry. When I started looking seriously into hiring an assistant she was the first person I approached. I've never had an assistant before, and I wasn't sure how easy I'd find it, so I knew from the start I'd rather work with someone I already knew well. I feel comfortable with AJ and find it easy to be honest with her. So far it seems to be going well.
Delegating is hard for a perfectionistic creative control-freak like me, but sometimes the hardest things are the most worth doing. AJ is taking on various aspects of the Dreams of Spanking admin, and will be doing more tasks behind the scenes as we go. We'll both have access to Dreams of Spanking email; she'll handle the routine stuff, and I'll deal with anything that requires a personal reply, so you might hear from her from time to time.

Aside from performers and camera crew, there are now four members of the Dreams of Spanking family working regularly on the site behind the scenes:
me (Pandora): full time - video/photo editing, graphic and web design, front-end web development, copywriting, script writing, direction, production, performance, casting, promotion, social media marketing, running the twitter account, email, user maintenance/tech support/payment handling, doing the accounts, ethical porn campaigning, business development, and anything else that comes up. Sole owner of the business and creative driving force behind it.
(Sometimes people assume I co-own the business with Tom, but I don't; he works for me occasionally, but it's my baby. I guess people are more used to a couple running a porn site than a solo woman.)
D: part time - back end web development, building new site features, fixing bugs, writing clever scripts to make my life easier, and occasionally spanking me in photos.
Tom: part time - building Free Hosted Galleries for our affiliates, copywriting, helping out with newsletters, updating our Clips4Sale and Spanking Library stores, publishing free trailers on SpankingTube, and writing the occasional tweet and blogpost. Plus of course stellar acting and topping on camera.
AJ: part time - admin, replying to email, handling manual subscriptions and payments, tech support, posting previews of new scenes on Fetlife and Tumblr, helping me with scheduling, shoot production, accounts, data entry and anything else we can think of!
So there you have it. It's exciting to have more people involved, helping me make the site as good as it can be, and freeing me up to spend time on creative implementation and long-term business strategy. I'm sure the team will continue to expand. Now that I'm starting to get my head around delegation, I'm looking forward to doing more of it!
I first heard about the story called The Magician's Apprentice when Adele asked me how to create some arcane techno-babble which actually meant something for a new fiction piece she was working on. I have a few useful books on the subject, and was able to provide some names and references. At what point Pandora adopted the story for Dreams of Spanking I'm not entirely sure, but I've been looking forward to the publication of this one for quite some time.
Adele is an excellent writer, and the scenario she created gave us, as actors, plenty to work with. Our day with Daniel R had already included The Captain and the Tavern Wench, so we were well in the mood for high-camp costume drama. We were also looking forward to experimenting with stills to create some visual effects that would have been much more difficult on video. And as an added bonus, I got to play Mr. Sheridan, Court Magician to the Empire:
Apparently the Empire ran to large beards that season.
Setting up for this one was almost as much fun as actually shooting it. Quite a lot of the paraphernalia we dressed the set with is either mine or Pandora's, and digging out the Fifth Pentacle of Mercury from The Key of Solomon always provides a good laugh on a wet winter evening. The actual chalk-work was mostly done by Jimmy, who's a fine artist (which I am not) and can write in Arabic (which I can't). We had a whale of a time putting candles everywhere and drawing obscure rude (or geeky) jokes onto the chalkboards in the background.
It's extraordinary how going the extra mile in the set detail affected the atmosphere; what you might call the Weta Workshops effect. The room felt different. Dressing the set created a good deal of tension in itself, and I found it very easy to get into role, even without dialogue, when acting against those elaborate props and backdrop.
I'll try not to spoil too much of Adele's story, but suffice it to say that after the kissing shots, we halted for a protracted faff with candles, to the accompaniment of much giggling. And then, as if by magic...
... a hand-crafted special effect leads to the young couple's discovery by Mr. Sheridan.
The richness of both colour and texture in the "enlightening" shot really has turned out as well as we'd hoped; I'm impressed by how well Daniel caught the moment.
As well as being a pleasure to work with on a personal level, Daniel kept pace with our rather eclectic imaginations all through the shoot, and always seemed to be able to tune in to what we were looking for. The half gothic, half steam-punk feel of this photostory beautifully matches the texture of Adele's prose.
If memory serves, this was also the first scene ever in which Jimmy and I interacted directly, in a CP sense. Balancing a new scene dynamic with character acting can be difficult, particularly if you are already as well acquainted as Jimmy and me. But on this occasion, it presented no problems at all. The story had a pace and rhythm to it that made staying in role easy, despite the stop-motion logistics of shooting stills, and the CP itself did not seem at all strange within the compelling motivations of the narrative.
Also, it was just so pretty...
An enormous amount of fun was had, and you've only seen the half of it: the plot thickens for young Sophie soon enough once Giles has faced the Magician's wrath. I'm really pleased with the final results: luxuriant colours and cabbalistic symbols enough to brighten anyone's day. Watch this space for part two.
For ages hand tawsing was on my list of "hard limits". Not that I would never, ever do it; I knew I wanted to try it sooner or later. But I was determined that the time, place and person I did it with would be right.
I've always been aware of hand tawsing as an intense, realistic, historical punishment. I learned all about Scottish schoolchildren getting "the belt"; English and American schoolchildren being caned or rulered on the hands. I even had my hands fake caned age 9 (for getting ink on my fingers while copying out the alphabet with a dip pen) on a school trip to a Victorian reenactment center, as we were told how unfair it would be, having to go back to your place and try to write neat letters with a throbbing, swollen hand. (In retrospect that school trip was pretty formative). In both school history lessons and a lot of the prim Victorian literature I grew up reading, hand punishment was far more mentionable than punishment applied to the buttocks.
It wasn't until I entered the scene that I encountered it as something people might do voluntarily. I read about fellow kinksters in discipline relationships having their hands strapped as a quickie punishment before being sent back to their desk. I once watched Lucy McLean teaching a mutual friend to do it, and I saw a number of friends get it during group roleplays with the Northern Spanking crowd. I even witnessed Leia-Ann Woods and another friend take double hand tawsings from Lucy and Amy Hunter, with both palms outstretched, crucifix style, and both tawses snapping down simultaneously. Holy shit.
I found it a fascinating punishment to watch, primarily because of the eye contact. An experienced hand tawser like Lucy can tell her victim to look into her eyes, and hold her gaze even as she lays on a devastatingly accurate stroke. There's something electric about it: the eye contact, the unique exposure and emotional vulnerability of your disciplinarian being able to watch every expression flicker across your face. You can't hide your head in shame; you have to hold it high. I love that, the way it encourages stoicism, especially when the whole room is watching. The position has always seemed a proud, brave one to me - standing tall, freely raising your palm, even though you know what's going to happen; even more so after the first strokes have been laid on, when you must do it again with your hand already sore. It takes a lot of courage.
I knew I wanted to try it, one day, but I also knew I didn't want it to be sprung on me in the middle of a light-hearted group roleplay. My fear was that I would find the whole experience incredibly intense, would cry and so on, and I didn't want to react that way in public unless the context was appropriate. It wouldn't be right for a casual fun punishment, and it wouldn't be right unless there was the opportunity for aftercare if I needed it.
In the end, that's not how it happened. First, I was asked to dish out light to moderate hand tawsings in sessions and custom shoots, and I needed to know what it felt like, so I ended up taking a few strokes privately, in a spirit of professional enquiry. None were hard enough to feel "real", but they reassured me that this was something I wanted to do.
When I was planning scenes to shoot with Leia, we were trying to think of more scenes for her topping me, and I mentioned the idea as a way to avoid marking my bottom before my big caning scene (or to avoid showing marks, after it). I knew she had considerable experience in both giving and receiving hand tawsing, so I trusted her to be safe and accurate. And having seen her take much worse hand tawsings than I was about to, I knew I'd have no excuse not to go through with it.
Dirty Hands is a witty, elegant, "short sharp shock" style punishment set in the world of the Ladies' Pony Club, the sequel to Lady Godiva. The prim and proper, "keeping up appearances" mood of this setting perfectly suited hand tawsing as a punishment. If you've Stephenson's Baroque cycle, you might recognise where I got the idea for the hand job on the yacht...
Fundraising Week is over at the Pony Club, and Miss Blake the Treasurer reports to her friend the President, Ms Woods. Leia has a bone to pick with Pandora. She knows Pandora has been messing around with her - Leia's - husband, and in fact Leia witnessed a rather unsubtle hand job taking place during the yacht cruise. Leia doesn't intend to take it lying down, and she means to make the punishment fit the crime. She knows a good way to ensure that Pandora's dirty hands don't stray where they shouldn't from now on...
I particularly enjoyed the dialogue in this, including some very sharp one-liners from Leia. I also enjoyed getting to play faux innocent, always good fun especially when you know you aren't going to get away with it!
For the tawsing itself, we negotiated 8 strokes, four on each hand, which we thought was the minimum to make for an interesting video. As a first timer, though, this meant they couldn't be full force, as even four at that severity is an extremely serious punishment. Instead Leia started out medium hard, and got a little harder towards the end. It still stung like blazes, and I couldn't help wincing as I held my tender palms up one after the other, knowing what was coming next.
Still, I survived, and I found the whole experience quite hot, more than I expected. This is definitely solidifying into an interest of mine. Now that I've done it once, I want to do it again. I'm tempted to try some properly hard strokes next time too. I really am my own worst sadist at times!
Our latest photoset is a vintage-inspired pin-up series featuring full knickers, fishnet tights that cover my bottom, and my new green corset. I think there's something alluring about a tease that doesn't involve stripping. Spanking enthusiasts have long been fans of lingerie and hosiery, with many people finding a bottom more attractive with underwear than without.
For me, this set conjures up images of cabaret, fin de siècle Paris and the Moulin Rouge. Although I'm wearing considerably less than a traditional can-can dancer!

Well, my first month as Pandora's assistant has been a brilliant experience so far. I love the way we work together and we get on so well, it's a really promising start and I'm immensely grateful for the opportunity to be part of the Dreams' Team. I'm so much looking forward to meeting the rest of the family at the upcoming cast and crew party for the site's 2nd birthday. But enough of that, onto the fun stuff.

Starring Michael himself, Nimue Allen and Pandora, it's a delicious little tale about female empowerment and taking the fight right to the "seat" of the patriarchy!
There's a new guerilla movement in town, on a mission to bring equality to the art world. No-one expects the London Galleristas! Gangs of feminist activists are roaming the capital, pouncing on unsuspecting gallery owners to check whether their collection includes enough work by female artists. If not, they exact a price on the curator's bottom, until hand and paddle persuade where words have failed. The ladies have pledged that the beatings will continue until every gallery in town achieves equal representation. Viva la revolution!

Last night I got together with a few of the Dreams of Spanking cast and crew to celebrate our upcoming second birthday. It was great to have the chance to introduce AJ to people, and I enjoyed watching performers who had watched each other's videos but not yet met recognise each other; e.g. Adele and Vincent, who greeted each other with the cry - "I know you!" - "I know you!"
I was particularly happy that Nimue could make it; it was the first of our December gatherings she had been able to get to, and since she is such a core member of the team, it felt very right to have her there. Big love to all the Dreams of Spanking family, those I got to see last night and those I didn't - you're the ones that make the magic happen. ♥
The fact that a good time was had by all was testified by the state of our heads this morning, especially mine. Nimue got up and left me in bed to travel home (she's moving house this week, which made me all the more grateful that she took the time to come and join us), but I didn't start feeling human until after an accidental catnap on my sofa in the early afternoon. Too much wine will do that to a girl. Still, two years in business is quite a thing to celebrate, and I regret nothing. ;)

It's hard to believe that in five days this website will have been up and running for two whole years. How time flies when you're having fun! We've crammed a lot in to that time, I've filmed a huge number of my most personal fantasies, made dreams come true and achieved more than I ever expected. Merry Yule! This weekend contains the longest night, the shortest day of the year. It might be hard to believe at this time of year, especially in grey rainy London, but after today the light starts to come back. Meanwhile, I recommend snuggling up indoors in the warm, perhaps with a willing partner, and watching some spanking videos to warm the blood. I hear that bottoms and hands can also be warmed by related means ;)
I'm doing much the same with Tom this weekend, although this being me, I'm squeezing in a bit of work around the edges too. Somehow the couple of weeks before Christmas always seem explosively busy, not only trying to get work wrapped up before the holidays, but with presents, Christmas feasts and family visits to organise too. Still, I love this time of year, and I'm looking forward to the festivities. I just wish I had an extra week first to get everything done in time!
Just to add to the excitement, on Thursday we held our last shoot of 2013, with Adele Haze and new photographer PWP. I've worked with PWP before in various contexts; we got talking and I learned that he loves spanking, but has never shot spanking photos before. As you can tell from his tumblr, he has no shortage of experience shooting bottoms! We discussed various ideas, including the artistic possibilities of combining spanking with glitter and bodypaint.

Meanwhile, a couple of tweets from Adele caught my eye in which she said she was craving a shoot with lace, ribbon, silk, and everything frilly and fancy. I decided to bring the two together and spend an afternoon shooting arty, colourful spanking photos with a difference. The glitter spanking experiment was excellent fun (I don't know about Adele, but I'm still finding glitter in unexpected places), and we both dolled up in ivory lacy dresses with ribbons on our lingerie and in our hair for a sensual F/F switch storyline.
My personal favourite, however, was the third photoset of the afternoon. Two topless girls in long skirts, velvet, mood lighting. Old books and ink, hand-lettered typography, words on skin. Adele and I have this kink in common. I copied out the first six lines of the Iliad onto her back in the original Homeric Greek, and it was the most peaceful, zen experience I have ever had on a spanking shoot. As the minutes ticked by, no-one spoke a word, PWP moved around us quietly snapping photos, I think she and I both entered a kind of subspace. There was an element of psychological bondage to it; she had to stay perfectly still, or the work would be ruined. And I entered a trance-like state as I lost all my awareness of the camera, and focussed on finishing the calligraphy as quickly and neatly as possible.
I don't know what story these images might tell. Perhaps we are lovers, or witches; perhaps I'm an artist decorating her for some sort of show, or perhaps she's my submissive and I've set her the challenge of stillness and obedience. Perhaps we are students in some strange alternate universe where punishment lines are written not on paper, but on skin.

Our new F/F schoolgirl caning film Leaving Day has just gone live. I'd thrilled to welcome Irelynn to the site. We filmed this video back in the summer, at the end of a day spent doing work for a private client. Irelynn had already officially retired from shooting video, but when I asked if she'd be interested in fitting in a Dreams of Spanking clip if we had time, she said yes. Sadly this was the only one we had time for, but it's possible she might be interested in coming back for more. So this might be the last spanking film Irelynn ever does - but then again, it might not. Either way, I hope you like it.

We've got a new military historical series running at the moment, shot on our location shoot in September and starring Thomas Cameron, Andrew Shada and myself - plus Nimue Allen in a forthcoming episode.
Havelock's Campaign is inspired by our favourite Napoleonic War fiction including the Sharpe books by Bernard Cornwell, and the Flashman series by George Macdonald Fraser, and centres around the character of Major Harry Havelock, a cavalry officer in Her Majesty's Hussars. This character of Tom's creation almost instantly became a firm favourite (especially of me and Nimue, who quickly developed big old crushes on him!), and Tom's skill as an actor, and passion for the period, shines throughout.
The first episode joins the officers the night before they ride out on campaign. Havelock congratulates new Lieutenant Shada on his promotion, and takes the opportunity to introduce the boy to the privileges of rank...
Major Harry Havelock of Her Majesty's Hussars has been assigned a new Lieutenant, commission still squeaky-new. Lieutenant Shada requires introduction to the privileges of an officer and a gentleman: wine, wenching, and whipping! Havelock also takes the opportunity to provide the new Lieutenant with Flash Harry's patent method for domestic bliss: a brisk over-the-lap spanking and, if she needs it, a firm thrashing with the riding crop...
The fantasy of being given by one dominant to another is one I've always had. It combines helplessness and lack of control with the pleasures of being shown off, objectified, and being the centre of attention of two tops at once. When they are both hot young men in military uniform ... well, what more could a lady ask?
I also love being used as a "demonstration model" in a scenario where one top is training or teaching another. This is a theme we've visited before, such as in The New Head Girl. In that story, the "demo bottom" was entirely unhappy about the way she was being treated. My wench in this scene is a little more sanguine about her situation. Maybe she is resigned to her fate and determined to have what fun she can with it. Maybe she has grown fond of the Major and truly wants to please him. Maybe he has chosen well, and picked a girl who genuinely loves to be spanked and whipped. Either way, I enjoyed playing the character of a saucy girl, a tart who enjoys her work, and finds being a camp follower far more entertaining than the other roles available to a woman of her class.
As the scene progressed, I found myself increasingly empathising with her - if I had been in her situation, I would probably have done my best to end up in Major Havelock's tent, too!
The historical military setting happened to fall right within Andrew's comfort zone, and his first-shoot nerves evaporated as he slipped easily into the manners and jargon of the setting. Tom and Andrew developed a rapport on that shoot which really comes across in these scenes, and the behind the scenes videos are a wonderful opportunity to get to know shy Andrew a little better.
It was a good thing that Andrew grew to like and trust Tom over the course of the shoot, because Tom was topping him in his last scene of the day, a harsh riding crop thrashing. Andrew was exhausted by the end his first ever spanking shoot, and opted out of a final scene with him topping the wench (me!) which had been pencilled into the callsheet. But he was happy to go ahead with this one, and take one last beating before some well deserved R&R.
During his first battle of the campaign, Second Lieutenant Shada was tasked with carrying a crucial message, but failed to carry out his duty after his horse stumbled and broke a leg. Major Havelock gives the young officer a firm dressing down, but takes pity and offers him a final chance to save his career. Rather than face a court martial, Shada must suffer the punishment of a cadet, rather than an officer, one last time, and bend over for twenty lashes from his superior.
For me, this scene revolves around two key elements. Firstly, Havelock's genuine affection for the boy, clearly evidenced by the fond exasperation with which he scolds him, and the fact he gives him an option at all. Humiliating and embarrassing as it may be for Shada to drop his trousers and take the punishment which would have been due were he still an ensign, and not, in fact, a newly minted officer, it is certainly better than the alternative.
Officers were not flogged in the British army - that punishment was reserved for the rank and file, and was significantly more brutal than what is shown here. Flogging was administered to the bare back with long leather whips, and a severe flogging could be a death sentence. However, young aristocratic ensigns and cadets, sent to the army or navy in order to be educated and prepared for a career in service, would have been caned by their superiors, just as if they had been at school.
In this story, Shada's character attended a military academy (Sandhurst or Addiscombe, probably) and so did not serve in the army as an ensign. If he had, however, and if he had been entrusted with a task which bad judgement or bad luck prevented him from carrying out, he might well have found himself on the receiving end of a thrashing from his commanding officer.
As a lieutenant he is supposed to have grown out of that sort of foolishness, and cannot now expect the leniency of corporal punishment. Havelock, however, has grown fond of the boy and believes he has promise. The punishment here is not only an embarrassing return to a juvenile mode, it is also a second chance, a gesture of affection, and one that the young lieutenant is willing to receive.
The second thing I love about Military Discipline, the key moment that makes it really hot for me, is when Havelock exhorts Shada to take his punishment "like the gentleman I know you to be". Shada nods, summons his courage, and takes twenty strokes hard enough to leave his bottom welted and bruised as stoically as he possibly can. Andrew's expressive features and body language make it clear how much it is hurting, but as he exhales and fights for control you can also tell that he is trying as hard as he can not to show it.
I love restrained reactions, courage and dignity in a spankee. It's not politically correct, but I find it especially hot in the context of male/male punishment, where gendered expectations are a factor and the bottom is trying to "man up" and retain their manly pride in the eyes of their disciplinarian. Andrew really felt this whipping, you can tell, but the hottest thing is the way he tries to be brave. And, I should add, succeeds: given this was his first ever spanking shoot, he really did do amazingly well.
